Welcome! I look forward to getting to know you. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor-Associate and National Board-Certified Counselor. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I also have numerous course hours of study in human development, education, art, and equestrian science. I transitioned into the field of clinical mental health counseling from a career as a horse trainer and riding instructor, during which I gained experience working with diverse clients of all ages and backgrounds. My area of specialty was working with riders to overcome trauma from previous riding accidents or traumatic events outside of equestrian activities that affected riders’ performance. My passion is helping others overcome barriers that stand in the way of their happiness and well-being.
My counseling philosophy is grounded in person-centered theory and is influenced by solution-focused, narrative, strengths-based, mindfulness, DBT, and cognitive-behavioral theories. My core belief is that people possess innate strengths, resiliency, and capacity for growth and positive change in their lives, and that counselor empathy is a vital component in the therapeutic relationship. I use collaborative discussions with clients to help them explore the connections between their experiences and emotions and how those connections can enrich their identity and help them create their preferred life narrative. I focus on client strengths to help build client-driven solutions and an individualized pathway forward, and view my role as a counselor as providing a safe space and guiding support for clients while they navigate through difficult challenges and discover areas of empowerment and growth opportunities in their lives. I enjoy working with adults (18yo+) from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and identities who experience anxiety, panic disorder, depression, trauma, PTSD, self-esteem challenges, and life challenges.
