Hello! My name is Austin, and you can call me A.J.
I am happy to be here for you on your wellness journey. My passion for mental health counseling comes from the idea that on the inside, we have a unique story that is waiting to be told. Finding the right words and emotions for us to properly convey our story can be a crucial part of the process as we go on this counseling journey.
I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate in the state of North Carolina. I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology and my Master’s degree in College Counseling and Student Development from North Carolina State University. Throughout my time in these programs, I have worked with younger teens from ages 12+ and adults of all ages as they navigate challenges and find their life’s purpose through their education, work and personal life. While experiencing anxiety and depression can be common for many, finding your own strengths and coping skills with a supportive counselor can provide a foundation for growth and writing the next part of your story.
My approach to counseling is based in a person-centered approach as well as one that is rooted in SBT (Strengths-based therapy) and positive psychology. Focusing on what is working can encourage you to take responsibility and ownership over the choices that you make and to help propel you forward toward the solution(s) that feel right for you. Holding the truth inside about our authentic selves can be an overwhelming experience. I want to provide the form of support that is right for you.
Being human alone can be hard. Being human together can be empowering.
I work in our High Point Center, and also offer virtual appointments throughout the state of North Carolina.
